My wife is not satisfied with our house. She wants to buy a new one which we cannot afford now.She downloads the pictures of the house that she wants and looks at it everyday.She is addicted to it just like people are addicted to nicotine. What could I do to change her mind?

First of all, more and more we hear that people who have no plans to buy love to look at homes online and are addicted to the practice.  It’s even been referred to ‘house porn’.  It’s not necessarily a harmful thing.  If she’s not putting your family in financial harm or neglecting life due to the web time, I wouldn’t worry about it.  It’s just entertainment for her.

If moving to a new home is a need for your family.  Work smartly towards the goal, together.  Set yourselves up on a budget and act as a team moving toward the goal.  If she wants a new home that bad, she’ll help you save for it.

Lastly, look around at what you have and be grateful for it. Help her remember all the great things about where you are and the positive memories you have there.  Also think about what you can’t do if you’re making a really big house payment.  Does she like to eat out? Travel? Shop?  Those things will be less if the housing expense is more.
